New: Here are the details of the two Photoshop tips presented by Ronnie:

Dodging and Burning

1.Open an image in photoshop

2.Create a new empty layer ( layers palette)

3.Edit > Fill > 50% gray.

4. Mode > Overlay or Soft light

(This can be made into an Action)

Instead of using the dodge or burn tool with this method we use

the brush tool at the same time making black and white as the

  foreground and background colours.

5.Choose a suitable size soft edge brush and lower the opacity

  to about 10 -15%.

6.Painting with black as foreground colour darkens the image.

7.Painting with white as foreground colour lightens the image.

The beauty of using this method is not only  you are not working on   the original image, but you  can also undo at any time any ‘errors’ you have made, by painting with the other colour i.e. to undo over ‘burning’ with black you can retrieve the situation by painting with white.
